JBSS Vision
“Many nations will come and say, ‘Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord and to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us about His ways and that we may walk in His paths.’ For from Zion will go forth the law, even the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” Micah 4:2
The Jerusalem Biblical Studies Society (JBSS) was born out of a vision for Jewish and Christian education in the lands of the Bible based upon Micah’s belief that the “word of the Lord would go forth from Jerusalem” (Micah 4:2). JBSS was founded in 2006 by Brian (Baruch) Kvasnica out of a profound concern that ministry training for a variety of callings – specifically a M.Div – is not available for Protestants in English here in Jerusalem. This vision was realized in and through digging and guiding with the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies (1998-2003), teaching Biblical Hebrew with the Biblical Language Center (2000-2010), teaching and administration with the Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators (2005-2018).
When people come on pilgrimage to the land of the Bible they grow in Biblical knowledge in ways that vastly deepen their spiritual and academic life. JBSS is committed to encouraging all varieties of Christian and Jewish study in the lands of the Bible — pilgrimages and spiritual retreats, semester and year study abroad programs, summer courses, and undergraduate and graduate degree programs. We pray that God will continue to bless the various local educational institutions in and around Jerusalem – that greater learning about and following of the Messiah is realized.
In the coming years, it is JBSS’s desire to help build a coalition of educational organisations based in Jerusalem to make study and experience in the Land of the Bible an unavoidable option for ministry training: that anyone going into ministry – be it as a Bible translator, Pastor, seminarian, mission-worker or Christian-aid worker – would have some amount of training time in the Land of the Bible – for two weeks, a month, a semester or even a degree. Please join us either here or on Facebook in catching Micah’s vision for teaching and experience in the land of the Bible!
